Elder Abuse: What is it and how do we prevent it?

⚠️ Trigger Warning: Elder Abuse

Today, we're addressing a critical issue — abuse towards our elderly.

Statistics reveal that elder abuse impacts a significant number of seniors in Australia, with studies showing that approximately 1 in 6 older Australians experience some form of abuse. This abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, or neglect, and often occurs in environments where the elderly are vulnerable.

❓ Why does this happen? ❓ Factors include stress, substance abuse or mental health issues, a power imbalance, lack of training, personal grievance, and the perceived notion of financial gain or power, relief from caregiving burdens, or a sense of control. These elements can create situations where abuse is more likely to occur, often hidden from view. Some perpetrators are family members, caregivers, friends and neighbors, and scammers.

YES IT IS HAPPENING, AND IT SHOULDN'T. As a Home Care Package (HCP) provider, we are DEDICATED to preventing elder abuse through RIGOUROUS MEASURES.
